Ivor Novello award-winning composer and musician Jem Godfrey is best known for co-writing the worldwide #1 smash hit “Whole Again” by British girl group Atomic Kitten and “That’s My Goal” by the winner of X-Factor Series 2, Shayne Ward.
Released in 2001, “Whole Again” was Atomic Kitten’s biggest selling single and sold over a million copies in the UK alone. It debuted at #1 in the UK singles chart in addition to topping the charts in Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and New Zealand, and reaching the top 10 in numerous other territories.
Atomic Kitten went on to release a cover version of Blondie’s “The Tide Is High” in 2002, which included a new bridge co-written by Jem. “The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)” was Atomic Kitten’s third UK #1 single and spent three weeks atop the chart, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide.
Alongside his work with Atomic Kitten, Jem co-wrote “That’s My Goal” by Shayne Ward, which became one of the fastest and best-selling songs of 2005 in the UK and earned Jem an Ivor Novello award in 2006. After securing UK Christmas #1, “That’s My Goal” held its position for four consecutive weeks and the single has since been certified platinum by the BPI for sales of over 600,000 copies in the UK.
Jem collaborated on songs with numerous other UK popstars around the turn of the millennium including Blue, Ronan Keating, Gareth Gates and Samantha Mumba. From their 2002 debut studio album ‘All Rise’, “Best In Me” by British boy band Blue was released as the record’s fifth and final single and entered the top 10 on the New Zealand singles chart.
In 2008, Jem contributed to the soundtrack of British musical drama Britannia High, co-writing two bespoke compositions called “Body To Body” and “Confessions”. The songs were later covered by pop group XYP and reached #1 and #2 in The Netherlands singles chart respectively.
