Remembering Music Icon Larry Page

We are saddened by the news that music manager, record label owner, producer and singer Larry Page has passed away at the age of 87 at his home in Australia.

Page was a significant figure in the history of Kassner Music, introducing a variety of acts to the company in the 1960s via Denmark Productions Ltd, a production and management co-venture between him and our founder Edward Kassner. It was within this set-up that Page became the joint manager of a north London pub group called the Ravens, who were later re-named The Kinks, and this association brought about the beginning of Ray Davies’ publishing relationship with our group of companies.

The Denmark Productions collaboration ended in 1966 but the connection between Kassner and Page was revived in 1988, with the acquisition by Kassner of the rights to Larry’s ‘Page Full of Hits’ publishing catalogue. The catalogue comprised songs recorded and released on Page’s record labels, Penny Farthing, Nepentha and Rampage, those contained on the eponymous first album of cult singer-songwriter Bill Fay and its follow-up ‘Time of The Last Persecution’ (including the much-loved “Be Not So Fearful”) and many others.

The music industry has lost one of the key figures of The British Invasion of the 1960s and one of its great characters.

RIP Larry Page 1936 – 2024.
