Nicolette, Co-Writer of Massive Attack’s “Sly” and “Three”, Signs Exclusive Deal with Kassner Music

“A strange and singular talent…excellent” – The Guardian “A rare enigma, prepare to be dazzled” – Muzik

Kassner Music is delighted to announce that it has penned an exclusive worldwide publishing agreement with singer-songwriter Nicolette, an undeniable talent and one of the most remarkable voices of the 90s.

Born in Scotland and raised in Nigeria before later moving to Europe, Nicolette initially gained attention in 1990 with her debut single “School of the World/Single Minded People” in collaboration with hardcore pioneers Shut Up and Dance. After several more dancefloor hits, the talented musician released her first album Now Is Early to considerable critical acclaim. Nicolette went on to release numerous successful albums throughout the decade, in a range of different musical styles from rare-groove and breakbeat to trip-hop and jungle but it was her collaboration with Massive Attack which propelled her into stardom.

Drawn by her unique style, Massive Attack approached Nicolette to appear on their 1994 album Protection. They sent her the rough backing tracks for two songs on cassette which Nicolette took as the inspiration for the haunting lyrics of trip -hop classics “Sly” and “Three“. Subsequently, the album went platinum.

The wistful music of “Sly” worked perfectly with Nicolette’s ethereal vocals and profound lyrical commentary on the cyclical nature of life. The track spent 7 weeks atop the UK Singles Chart, and has accumulated 2 million Spotify plays and over 6 million YouTube views since its release.

Nicolette says of the deal; “I chose Kassner Music because I had dealings with Alex Kassner and I got the impression that he was an honest person. I then discovered the history of the company, that it was family based and successful on its own terms and I liked that.”
