Singer-Songwriter Michelle Escoffery Joins the Kassner Music Roster

Kassner Music is delighted to announce that it has signed an exclusive deal with Michelle Escoffery.

Michelle is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter as well as a highly respected figure for advocacy and empowerment in the music industry. She began her career in the mid-90s as part of the all-female R&B trio Truce and co-wrote almost all of their releases. When the band dissolved in 1998, she was already established as a songwriter for others.

From 1997 to 2001, Michelle had multiple chart hits including “I Wanna Be Your Lady” by Hinda Hicks (UK #14), “Dayz Like That” (UK #11 when released by Fierce and #1 in Canada when recorded by Sugar Jones), “Think About Me” by Artful Dodger (UK #11 with Michelle on vocals) and “TwentyFourSeven” by Artful Dodger feat Melanie Blatt (UK #6).

Her songwriting success reached its peak in 2002 when Liberty X released “Just A Little” as their third single. “Just A Little” was a major hit, debuting at #1 on the UK Singles Chart and going on to spend 14 weeks in the Top 40. The record ended 2002 as the seventh best-selling single of the year in the UK and won the Best British Single award at the 2003 BRIT Awards, while the song received the Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work on UK radio in 2002. In addition, “Just A Little” was a hit in Australia (ARIA #4 and platinum certification), France (#12 and gold certification), Germany (#24) and the Netherlands (#3).

Michelle continues to write and dedicate time and expertise to artist and songwriter development through her boutique production company 528 Music Global. At the same time, she is Chair of the Ivors Academy Trust, a trustee of the PRS Foundation, a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and chair of Newcastle Gateshead Music City, a development project for the region’s music sector creating opportunities for emerging artists and music professionals.

Alex Kassner of Kassner Music, says: “We are delighted that Michelle will now call Kassner Music her publishing home. We are excited to have the opportunity to exploit the immense quality of her songwriting catalogue – with “Just A Little” a prime candidate for syncs and covers – and we are also proud to work with someone so esteemed for their contributions to artist and songwriter development across the industry.”
