David Kassner

David is the owner and managing director of the Kassner Music group. Born in England, David grew up in America and was educated at Upper Canada College in Toronto, Canada, before attending McGill University in Montreal.

He formally started his career in 1972 as a promotion man and producer for the Kassner Music group’s label, President Records. In the years following his arrival, he was a key figure as the company enjoyed major success with a string of chart-dominating hits including George McCrae’s ‘Rock Your Baby’ and KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘That’s the Way I Like It’. David continued to develop the label’s roster throughout the 80s and 90s adding world-renowned artists such as Mike D’Abo, Denny Lane and Rick Wakeman to name but a few.

Concentrating on growing the publishing side of the business since the mid-90s, David has progressed the Kassner Music operation into a dynamic, leading global independent and substantially expanded the company’s catalogue through licensing and acquisition. Working with both new and internationally-acclaimed writers, David has established relationships which have lasted throughout his career to the present day.

A determined champion of the value of copyright and a voice for the independent music community, David has served on the MPA Board since 2001, the ICMP Board since May 2018 and is a founding member of IMPEL Collective Management Ltd. He is also a strong believer in the power of music to inspire and enhance people’s lives and has devoted his time as a trustee of the BRIT Trust since 2005.
